This is the changelog for the Android version of Complete Rhythm Trainer

1.9.0 (October 30, 2026)

The app has been rewritten from scratch in Kotlin and now uses the Compose framework. This gives us a solid, modern foundation that will allow us to iterate quickly and maintain feature parity across all platforms. It’s a major rewrite, with not a single line of code shared with the previous version. It has been tested thoroughly, but if you encounter any bugs, please email us at hello@completemusicreadingtrainer.com. To submit a bug, email is always the best first choice: we’ll see it sooner than a Play Store review, and we’ll be able to reply and fix it more quickly.

• The user interface has been modernized, and the app is now more consistent with its counterparts on other platforms
• The audio engine will no longer lose sync with the cursor in case of occasional performance issues on a device
• All screens now use adaptive layouts and should look great on all devices and screen sizes
• On tablets, when there is room for it, a side menu has been added to quickly navigate to various app sections
• The app now respects the device’s preferred font size where possible
• Two new options can be found in the app settings to increase or decrease the user interface and font sizes
• When there is room for it, a theme switcher button is now displayed in the toolbar to quickly switch between light and dark themes
• A lot of bugs and visual inconsistencies have been addressed
• Minimum Android version is now Android 7.0

1.7.4-126 (March 20, 2026)

• Google Play Games services have been removed. Recent versions of Google Play Games display an unavoidable message every time the app is launched for all users, including those who have not enabled them. As achievements, leaderboards, and cloud sync have been handled by our own backend for several years, these services were only used when the optional setting “Publish achievements to Google Play Games” was enabled. We decided to remove them from the app, as we consider these intrusive messages to be unacceptable for the overall user experience.

We have released Complete Music Trainer, a web/desktop application allowing to access our three apps Complete Ear Trainer, Complete Rhythm Trainer and Complete Music Reading Trainer on a desktop computer. Some of the changes below are a direct consequence of that release.

• Achievements are now handled inside the app. There is no need to sign in to Google Play Games anymore to unlock and display achievements. Therefore, achievements are now always enabled, and a switch has been added in the app settings to optionally also publish your achievements to Google Play Games
• Leaderboards are now handled on our own servers instead of using Google Play Games, meaning that leaderboards are now cross-platform and are displaying - on a brand-new user interface! - scores from Android, iOS and Complete Music Trainer users
• We are now using our own servers to sync progression data in the cloud. Signing in to Google Play Games is not required anymore. As a result, cloud sync is now cross-platform: your data will from now on be synced between Android, iOS and the web/desktop version of the app
• Achievements are now synced in the cloud
• Saved free practices are now synced in the cloud
• We are now using our own license server. Consequently, licenses are now cross-platform: if you buy the full version of the app on Android, the full version will also be available on iOS. And vice-versa. An optional subscription also gives access to Complete Music Trainer web/desktop app, and is a great way to help with server costs and support us
• “My account” page added
• You can now set a profile picture that will be displayed on leaderboards
• You can now delete your account directly from the app
• Two images have been replaced with new images (“custom training” and “achievements”)
• Typography is now bolder in many places to improve readability
• Separators have been added to the app menu
